Still corresponding after all these years

With modern technology and the Internet, the good old fashioned method of correspondence schools may seem to have disappeared, but for more than 20 years, Gladwyn Packwood has been serving the Island through the Mailbox Bible Club.

“It’s been going since the early 1980s,” Mr. Packwood said. “I saw an ad or a lesson — a friend of mine had a lesson, that’s it.”

He investigated the programme, found that it was very valuable, and purchased copies of the club’s various lessons and began to share it with whomever was interested.

“At the outset, it was a hotcake,” he chuckled. However, today, the interest seems to have faded somewhat, partly because of competition with other correspondence classes and programmes that have become available.

The courses are completely free to those who are interested. All people have to do is write or call Mr. Packwood for information.

The courses include several different books of the Bible, an Old Testament and a New Testament Survey, and a number of topical courses, including Christian Living, What the Bible Teaches, and Baptism.

Why try them out?

“Because they show people the way of salvation, the way of living the Christian life,” Mr. Packwood shared. He also added that they help people become better citizens and more concerned about others around them. For information, you can call Gladwyn Packwood at 238-0546 or write to P.O. Box SN140, Southampton, SNBX.
