MPs to consider retirement age bill
Created: May 11, 2007 11:00 AM
MPs will today debate a bill to allow public sector workers to work past the current retirement age.
The Public Service Superannuation Amendment Act 2007 will permit Police, Prison and Fire officers to work on until they are 60 rather than face mandatory retirement at 55 — if they get permission from their boss.
And other civil servants can carry on until they are 70 with the permission of the head of the civil service.
