A Police spokesperson said that the man, who was travelling on Horseshoe Road in Southampton, lost control as he tried to negotiate a left hand bend.

He is believed to have serious back injuries as a result of the accident.

Police also reported a collision involving a 21-year-old Pembroke woman and an Irish tourist.

A Police spokesperson said the two were riding on their livery cycles on Richmond Road near the junction of Bermudiana Road at 1.30 a.m. yesterday.

"Both vehicles caught on fire on impact but fortunately the drivers were thrown from their bikes beforehand,'' the spokesperson said.

The drivers were taken to Hospital where they were treated for cuts and abrasions.

INFLATION RATE REMAINS UNDER CONTROL GVT Inflation rate remains under control Inflation remained under control in July, according to the latest information from the Department of Statistics.

The Consumer Price Index climbed by 0.1 percent in July.

The annual inflation rate for the 12 months that ended in July was 2.6 percent, down slightly from the 2.7 percent rate for the previous 12-month period that ended in June.

The fuel and power sector recorded a 1.4 percent jump in July, but other areas were restrained.

Rent, clothing and footwear, tobacco and liquor, appliances, services, transport and vehicles, and health and personal care all edged up 0.1 percent.

Food went down by 0.2 percent, while education, recreation and reading advanced 0.2 percent.

STABBED MAN IN CRITICAL CONDITION CRM Stabbed man in critical condition A man who was stabbed at the Clay House Inn has been re-admitted to hospital and is in critical condition, Police said.

Although charges were laid in connection with the August 29 stabbing, "the investigation is still very active,'' Sgt. John Dale said.

Det. Insp. Jonathan Smith and Det. Con. Terry Maxwell have interviewed several witnesses but would like to speak to more, Sgt. Dale said.

They also wanted to talk to anyone who had dealings with Jermaine Salaam before the 2 a.m. incident, "or even anyone who saw Jermaine Salaam jump into the water on the North Shore after the incident,'' he said.

Salaam, 19, of Beacon Hill, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm and carrying an offensive weapon.

MAN FAILS TO PAY TAXI DRIVER'S FARE CRM Man fails to pay taxi driver's fare A taxi driver was ripped off on Tuesday night after picking up a local man and two American female tourists.

The cab driver dropped the girls off at Palm Valley, Warwick, and then drove the man to Loyal Hill, Devonshire.

Police spokesman Sgt. John Dale said the man got out of the cab and disappeared without paying the $28.25 fare.

"The taxi driver knocked on a few doors but was unlucky,'' said Sgt. Dale.

THIEF STEALS ABOUT $400 FROM TEAPOT CRM Thief steals about $400 from teapot Around $400 was stolen from a teapot at a home in Angle Street on Tuesday.

There was also an attempted break-in at a property in South Shore Road, Paget.

The would-be thief was frightened off after a lady screamed when he raised a window.

GOV'T BEGINS WORK TO IMPROVE ROAD TFC Gov't begins work to improve road The Ministry of Works & Engineering began work this week to improve Middle Road (White Hill), Sandys.

The project will widen the road past the Salvation Army from 18 feet to 22 feet and sidewalks will be built on both sides.

A spokesperson from the Ministry said the road will be much safer for pedestrians and traffic.

All excavation will take place on the embankment on the southern side and the carriageway moved over a few feet, allowing for the construction of a curb and sidewalk on the northern side.
