A Grammy-winning gospel artist is returning to the island to perform for free this weekend.

The Right Reverend Hezekiah Walker, who led Bermuda Gospel Fest last year, will take the stage at the Church of God Glory Temple in St David’s on Sunday.

Bishop Walker founded the Love Fellowship Tabernacle churches and is the presiding pastor of the Covenant Keepers International Alliance, which spreads the message of Christ worldwide.

He won Grammy awards for Best Gospel Choir or Chorus Album in 1994 and 2001.

The Right Reverend Lloyd Duncan, of the New Testament Church of God, explained: “Bishop Walker has fallen in love with Bermuda — he’s decided to come back; this will be his third time around.”

He said more than 1,000 people attended the concert last year and another large crowd is expected at the weekend.

Bishop Walker and members of his team, as well as the Last Call worship group and a mass choir, will perform at the event, set to start at 6.30pm.

Bishop Duncan told The Royal Gazette: “It will provide a safe haven for those who need to exhale, breathe, get away from the hustle and bustle of the everyday routine of life and just experience something wholesome.

“If you’re looking for that, what better place to come than Glory Temple, where you could experience the presence and power of God?”

He added: “To have a Grammy-winning artist of Bishop Walker’s calibre to come to the island, be touchable and be in his presence, is a major thing for those who like gospel music.

“Bishop Walker has a magnetic personality that seems to galvanise and bring people together.

“I hope this time around will be nothing less than people coming together with one objective, across denominational lines, to give praise, honour and glory to God.”

The concert is not the only free event this week. Three senior citizens will be honoured at the New Testament Church today, and Bishop Walker’s team will join worshippers at Midland Heights Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Sunday morning.
