Beach volleyball teams make it to Caribbean semi-finals
The Bermuda men’s and women’s beach volleyball teams have made it into the semi-finals of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Championships in St Lucia.
The competition features the men’s team of Sean Tucker and Benjamin Barnett and the pairing of Megan Hands and Hailey Moss taking on squads from St Lucia, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, Anguilla, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Barnett & Tucker started pool play on Friday with a dominant 2-0 (21-11, 21-19) victory over Anguilla before losing to an experienced St Lucia pair 2-0 (21-18, 21-9).
On Saturday Barnett and Tucker advanced to the quarter-finals after beating St Lucia’s second team 2-0 (21-10, 21-9) and drew the Grenada 2 pairing of Zerick Walcott and Zibose Hamilton.
The Grenadians proved no match for the Bermudian pair who won 10-21, 18-21 to set up a semi-final match against Jedidiah Pencheon, from St Kitts & Nevis, on Sunday.
Hands & Moss made it through to the knockout stages despite losing their opening two matches against teams from St Lucia and Antigua.
Despite that difficult start they have progressed well to beat Deandra Fleming and Lavesha Richardson, from Anguilla, in the first knockout stage before defeating Joyan Pascal and Zahidu Henry, from Dominica, 21-18, 21-13) in the quarter-final and will play St Lucia in the semi-finals on Sunday.
