Bermuda hockey teams fall to narrow defeats
Bermuda women’s hockey team’s conceded a penalty stroke in the last 90 seconds of the match to lose 2-1 to Puerto Rico on Wednesday.
Puerto Rico’s Alexis Morales kept her cool to beat Bermuda goalkeeper Christina Stephens-Weser and condemn Bermuda to their second defeat in three group matches.
Bermuda fell behind early in the game when Maria Pianetti scored in the first quarter but drew level before half time after Jessica Hollis struck her second goal of the tournament.
Defeat leaves Bermuda fourth in Central American and Caribbean Games group on three points, with Venezuela topping the group on six points, the same number as Mexico and Puerto Rico.
Bermuda have three points after beating Guatemala in their opening match.
The Bermuda men’s team lost 2-0 to Jamaica with Rashad McCarthy and Philip Dawson scoring the goals.
The defeat leaves Bermuda fifth in their group with one point from their four games. Venezuela and Jamaica head the standings on nine points but Jamaica have played one game more.
