Department of Culture releases Heritage Month event schedule
Celebrations for Heritage Month in Bermuda will round out the rest of May as several organisations prepare festive events.
Public and private groups announced plans to spotlight Bermuda’s heritage under this year’s theme, “The Future is Now”.
Owen Darrell, the culture minister, said: “Heritage Month continues to be one of the most cherished times of the year as we honour the rich culture, traditions and spirit that makes us proud to call Bermuda home.
“I look forward to embracing the vibrant energy of our heritage throughout the rest of May, especially on Bermuda Day, which we’ll celebrate together on Friday, May 23.”
Tomorrow, the Bermuda National Library will host Lost Links: Uncovering Bermuda’s Native American Connections Through Archaeology.
The free lecture, at 6pm, will follow archaeologist Xander Cook as he examines Oven Site, a 17th-century homestead for Native American families.
Also tomorrow, Paradise Mobile will host Artist Talk, where talented Bermudian artists discuss the creative processes behind their work.
The free event will feature Shanna Hollis, Nahshon Hollis, Natalie Sannelmalm, Stratton Hatfield, Martin Hatfield, Chyna Talbot and Jason Semos.
Works by the featured artists will also be available for purchase.
The event will start at 5.30pm, with doors opening at 5pm, at the Paradise Mobile store on Reid Street.
MakerSpace in CedarBridge Academy is hosting the Heritage Month Yoga Series every Saturday until May 31.
A spokeswoman for the Department of Culture reminded the public that the Bermuda Day Parade will take place in Hamilton on May 23.
She added that the Chewstick Foundation will host an open-mike jam session the following Sunday at Blue Waters Anglers Club on East Broadway in Pembroke.
