Megan Nesbitt, chief executive of Abacus Ltd, has achieved the Chartered Director designation from the Institute of Directors, the highest level of recognition in corporate governance and strategic leadership.

The Chartered Director qualification is globally recognised as a gold standard in directorship, stated Abacus, a Bermudian-based accounting and advisory firm, in a press release.

Ms Nesbitt is now one of just 13 professionals in Bermuda to hold the title, and among only 2,000 worldwide. Her journey towards the designation began in 2022 and included completion of the IoD certificate and diploma in company direction, followed by a rigorous, experience-based final assessment completed in early 2025.

To earn the designation, Ms Nesbitt undertook extensive training in leadership, board responsibilities, financial oversight, risk management and strategic development. She completed a demanding mix of online and in-person modules, a case-based exam and a final review of her boardroom experience.

“I am incredibly proud to have earned this designation,” Ms Nesbitt said.

“It has taken determination, discipline and commitment over years of study. It has served as a powerful reminder that leadership is just as much about self-belief as it is about external guidance. Becoming a Chartered Director means I can bring even greater value to Abacus's clients, team and the broader community by applying board-level insight to real-world business challenges.”
