Second murder case put on hold

A man accused of premeditated murder may now not stand trial for the offence.Crown counsel Susan Mulligan yesterday told Supreme Court that the case against Roger Lightbourne Jr had been put on hold.Mr Lightbourne had been charged with murdering 26-year-old Jahmiko LeShore on March 1, 2012 as he stood outside a residence on Boundary Crescent, Devonshire. He was also charged with using and handling a firearm while committing an indictable offence, sometime between July 7, 2010 and March 3, 2011.Yesterday marked the second time in as many days that the Department of Public Prosecutions submitted a ‘noelle prosequi’ to Supreme Court.A case against David Jahwell Cox and Devon Rohn Hewey for the premeditated murder of James Lawes and the attempted murders of Maurice Martin and Robin Stovell, was put on hold on Tuesday. In both cases, the submission does not mean that charges have been dropped, but that prosecutors will not pursue them for now.Puisne Judge Carlisle Greaves warned Mr Lightbourne that the submission “does not mean that it’s over”.Said Mr Justice Greaves: “The Crown is entitled to revisit the matter and file charges later in respect of this matter. You are free to go.”Asked if he had anything to say on the decision, Mr Lightbourne replied: “Everything’s cool. All praises be to Allah.”The police investigation into Mr LeShore’s death remains open.
