A day after Jake Brislane attained a personal best of 3min 53.20sec to win the 1,500 metres at British Milers Club, Caitlyn Bobb received a special mention after running 52.42 in the semi-finals at the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Thursday.

The 19-year-old Brislane, a first-year student at the University of Warwick beat a field of 13 to the finish line. In March, Brislane achieved his personal best time of 14:49.87 when finishing third at the Podium 5K in Leicester, England.

Brislane is gearing up to represent Bermuda at the Island Games in Orkney early next month. He will be running the 1,500 and 5,000.

“The race went well, I stuck to my plan to stay a bit more conservative at the start and then finish quickly,” Brislane said.

“This meant I took the lead in the last 50 metres to win. I was happy with the result as it was another couple of seconds off my personal best and the win was a bonus, but I believe I can still go a couple seconds faster in a more competitive race.”

For Bobb, with the top two in each pool plus the next three best times progressing, the Bermudian sprinter was seventh in the first heat. When the heats were combined, she was seventeenth overall, which saw her miss out on Saturday’s final.

“Honourable mention and a 52.42 in the 400m semi-final for Cay Bobb,” Virginia Tech posted on X.

From Bobb’s heat, the American duo of Aaliyah Butler (50.16), of University of Georgia, and Rosey Effiong (50.49), from University of Arkansas, secured qualification for the final.

The VTech senior’s second trip to nationals, the first since 2022, was her last appearance. The Bermuda national record holder’s attention is expected to shift to her preparations for the Junior Pan American Games, scheduled for Asunción, Paraguay, from August 9 to 23.

Before heading off to Paraguay together with Norre Robinson, the 22-year-old is coming home to compete at the national championships at Flora Duffy Stadium on Friday and Saturday next week.
