Two motorists receive six-month road bans
Two men who separately drove vehicles while disqualified have each been banned from driving for six months.
Allan Simmons, 34, and 40-year-old Jonathan Outerbridge both admitted the offence when their cases were heard in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.
Simmons, from Devonshire, also pleaded guilty to not taking a breath test when ordered and riding a bike without insurance.
The court heard that police followed Simmons after he ignored traffic lights in Hamilton on May 24.
Simmons rode away from officers and fled on foot after he lost control of his bike on The Glebe Road.
He refused to take a breath test at Hamilton Police Station after the incident.
Simmons was banned from the roads for 18 months last June after he admitted drink-driving.
Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson ordered that Simmons’s six month disqualification run from December to next June.
She fined him $750 for riding while disqualified and $1,500 for not having insurance.
Ms Anderson also ordered Simmons, who admitted having a problem with alcohol, to participate in DUI Court from Tuesday and released him until that time.
The court heard that police stopped Outerbridge, from St George’s, for speeding at 66km/h, which he also admitted, on June 18.
Officers learnt that Outerbridge was banned from driving all vehicles for 18 months in February 2024.
Ms Anderson fined Outerbridge $750 for driving while disqualified, $360 for speeding and ordered a six-month disqualification to run from August this year to February 2026.
