Watch: Island Games opening ceremony and Bermuda Sunday schedule
Bermuda’s Island Games team have taken part in the opening ceremony in Orkney with competition set to start on the Scottish Island on Sunday.
More than 60 Bermuda athletes were greeted by the Princess Royal, Princess Anne, with the athletes being introduced among the 1,200 competitors from islands around the world.
Bermuda’s football teams will be strong contenders for medals and the men’s team coached by John Barry Nusum begin their campaigns against Western Isles at 8am Bermuda time.
The women’s team, who are defending gold medals, take on Jersey in the final match of the day at 3pm Bermuda time.
The island’s badminton representatives will also be in action on Sunday in the team competition, with matches scheduled against host island Orkney, Isle of Man and Gotland.
David Leach will be in action in the men’s singles in lawn bowls, with Judith Barton competing in the women’s singles. Leach will also team up with David Barton in the men’s pairs event, while Judith Barton competes alongside Tamara Leach in the women’s pairs competition.
Brian Darling and Nick Pohlman will get their first taste of action in the round of 32 in the men’s singles squash competition, with Taylor Carrick given a bye into the last 16.
Megan Berry will compete in the women’s triathlon.
In athletics, Jake Brislane will compete in the 1,500 metres and Gayle Lindsay in the 10,000 metres
