Traffic warning for Cup Match festivities
Cup Match will soon return to St George’s, and the Ministry of Public Works and Environment has warned that traffic restrictions will be in place for the event.
A government spokesman said the measures are intended to handle the anticipated influx of attendees and allow for efficient movement of pedestrians and vehicles during the two-day holiday.
Wellington Slip Road will be closed to all non-resident traffic between 9am and 9pm on July 31 and August 1, with the road operating as a one-way route in a clockwise direction for residents.
No parking will be permitted between 6am and 9pm between the Swing Bridge and the western boundary of the Town of St George, between Wellington Lane and Suffering Lane or between Mullet Bay Road and Wellington Back Road.
Additional no-parking restrictions will apply throughout the entire length of the Mullet Bay Road loop.
General parking will be available at Rocky Hill Park, Mullet Bay Park and Penno’s Wharf, but no public parking will be permitted at Wellington Oval. Access to the oval parking area will be restricted to VIPs and invited guests of the St George’s Cricket Club.
Designated bus-only zones will be established in the lay-bys near Mullet Bay Park and will be clearly marked.
The spokesman added: “The Bermuda Police Service is authorised to close additional streets or regulate parking as necessary to manage safety and traffic flow during the event.
“Motorists and Cup Match attendees are strongly encouraged to plan accordingly, adhere to all signage and instructions from officials and utilise the designated parking areas.
“These measures have been implemented to facilitate safe and orderly attendance at one of the island’s largest and most anticipated sporting and cultural events.”
