Pair accused of stealing $150,000

Two men appeared briefly in Magistrates' Court yesterday accused of stealing $150,000.

Antonio Myers, 20, and Devano Whitter, 22, of Pembroke, allegedly stole the money from a house in Devonshire on March 1.

The two men, who had no legal representation in court, were released on $5,000 bail each with one surety.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner told the men to report to the Hamilton Police station every Monday and Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

They are due to return to court on May 31 for mention.

Door damaged at SPCA office

A 50-year-old Sandys man pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court yesterday to wilfully damaging a door at the SPCA offices in Paget on March 7.

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told the court how Gladwin Ingham from West Side Road had gone to the SPCA offices to enquire about his dog.

Mr. Blackman said he asked staff where his dog was and a heated argument ensued during which time Ingham became agitated and damaged a door.

Staff were forced to call Police.

Mr. Blackman said Ingham later found out that his dog had been removed from his property by the dog warden, but by then he had already damaged the door.

Ingham told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that "they" took his dog without his permission.

"My dog has been let loose a few times and I think it was the neighbour who always complained about the dog," he said.

Mr. Warner fined him $200 and an additional $100 compensation for the damaged door.

Ingham asked for time to pay because he had a pregnant wife, two children and a mortgage, but Mr. Warner refused.

He told Ingham to pay the fine or default 30 days and Ingham opted to pay the fine before leaving.

Three men appear on drug-related charges

Three men appeared in the Magistrates' Court yesterday and various drug-related charges.

Neville Tucker, 22, from Rambling Lane, Curving Avenue in Pembroke, pleaded guilty to possession after being arrested on January 12.

Crown counsel Anthony Blackman told the court that Tucker was arrested during a routine Police operation in the Curving Avenue area.

He said Police had cordoned off the area and Tucker was one of the people inside this area.

Mr. Blackman said Police observed Tucker, who was on crutches, acting suspiciously.

"He was nervous and fidgeting with his pants," he said.

Police approached Tucker and told him they were going to search him, but before they could do so, Tucker reached into his pants and pulled out a zip-lock bag containing five yellow paper wrappings.

Mr. Blackman said Tucker told Police that was all the "weed" he had.

The bag was sent to a Government analyst who found the contents to be 5.57 grams of cannabis.

Tucker told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that he used the cannabis to help him sleep because he had pins in his legs at the time.

Mr. Warner simply shook his head and fined Tucker $1,000, or three months default.

Tucker has until June 25 to pay the fine.

In another drug-related case in court, Mervyn Smith, 30 from Bob's Valley Road in Sandys pleaded not guilty to being in possession of equipment intended for use with drugs, in this case a pipe.

He was arrested in Sandys on November 5 last year.

He was released on $500 bail and will return to court on June 27 for trial.

Meanwhile Lee Wilson, 18, from Devon Heights Road, Devonshire, pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis after being arrested on February 10 this year.

He was released on $3,000 bail with one surety and will return to court on July 21 for trial.
