Why has homage to the monarchy taken flight?

Dear Sir,

I recently returned to Bermuda, a place I have visited and loved for more than 15 years. Each time I arrive, I’m reminded why this island feels like a second home — the warmth of the people, the beauty of the landscape, and the unique sense of tradition that sets Bermuda apart.

But this year, something was quietly missing. At the airport, I noticed the portrait of the British monarch was no longer there.

To some, this may seem trivial. But to me — as a visitor who has long admired Bermuda’s blend of heritage and modern life — it felt like something meaningful had been removed. That portrait always greeted us with quiet dignity, reminding us of the island’s proud history and identity as a British Overseas Territory.

I understand that times change, and such decisions are not always easy. But I hope that in moving forward, Bermuda does not let go of the small symbols that make it so distinct. Tradition has always been part of the island’s charm.

Thank you, Bermuda, for the memories and the magic. I remain a grateful and devoted friend.
