Bermudian musician Heather Nova has been named a top leader by the organisers of the Caribbean Global Awards.

A ceremony is set for London next month and the singer-songwriter was named among the top 30 leaders in the People’s Choice — Caribbean Leader category of the event.

Ms Nova was recognised for her “visionary leadership, commitment to excellence and the deep respect and admiration” that she earned across the Caribbean region and the diaspora.

Organisers of the event said that the honour was a “reflection of the meaningful impact” Ms Nova continues to make in the community, Bermuda and the Caribbean at large.

The Caribbean Global Awards People’s Choice features personalities who are recognised for their leadership contributions in fields including politics, the arts, business, sports and health.

Several serving Caribbean heads of state, Usain Bolt — the Jamaican sprint superstar — and retired West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul are among other personalities featured on the top 30 list for 2025.

The gala event will be held on September 27 at Great Cumberland Place in London.

During her career, Ms Nova has shown her passion for uplifting young Bermudian talent and several artists — including singers Joy Barnum and Hana Bushara — have benefited from her mentorship.

Ms Bushara was an opening act for Ms Nova on her Antwerp and London tours this year.

In 2023, Serilina Fisher, a Warwick Academy student, was chosen to share the spotlight with Ms Nova as the winner of the singer’s third Young Bermudian Singer-Songwriter competition.

She received a year of mentoring from the performer, along with a day in the studio with her to record a song and the chance to open for the singer at a Bermuda show.

Ms Nova said that she launched the competition in 2019 to encourage and support young songwriters in the community.
