Drink-driver gets 18-month road ban

A drink-driver involved in a crash in Hamilton Parish has been banned from the roads for 18 months.

Manoj Paynter, 23, admitted driving under the influence when he appeared in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that police saw Paynter, from Smith’s, at the scene of the crash along North Shore Road on August 23.

Officers took Paynter to Hamilton Police Station, where a breath test showed 201.4 milligrams of alcohol within 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit for driving in Bermuda is 80mg/100ml.

Paynter was fined $1,500 for the offence in addition to being banned.
