Bermuda Institute pupils put lessons on kindness to the test during a free carwash in the parking lot of Heron Bay MarketPlace.

The Grade 7 youngsters took to the nearby market on Tuesday morning to clean as many car windows as they could in an hour.

A MarketPlace spokesman said customers were surprised by the gesture and thanked the pupils and teachers.

He added: “These students showed how simple acts of kindness can brighten someone’s day.

“We’re proud of the students and proud that The MarketPlace could be a place where young people live out these values and inspire others to do the same.”

A class of 23 youngsters had been examining the topic of kindness in Bible study lessons.

They were tasked with finding practical ways to give back to their community, leading to one group suggesting that they clean car windows for free.

The MarketPlace spokesman said pupils approached the Southampton store and asked permission, which the store gladly offered.

He added: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Bermuda Institute students to Heron Bay.

“Their thoughtful gesture was a reminder that kindness goes a long way.”

Mazina Nisbett, the Grade 7 teacher who co-ordinated the carwash, said: “Our students were so excited to serve the public and reflect God’s love through their actions in such a visible way.

“The smiles they received in return were the best reward.

“We are grateful to The MarketPlace for giving them the opportunity to put their learning into action.”
