Bermuda’s flagship golf tournament is set to make a comeback at Port Royal Golf Course next month.

For the first time in a decade the Southampton golf course will host the Gosling’s Bermuda Open from October 16-18.

The 54-hole medal play championship is open to professionals and top amateurs with an 8.0 handicap or below.

The eventual winner will receive an exemption into the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which will be held at Port Royal from November 13-16, while world ranking points will also be on offer.

Women players are invited to participate should they meet the handicap requirements and must also compete from the tournament tees.

Bermuda Golf Association president Craig Brown is delighted to see the premier event up and running again.

“The Bermuda Golf Association is proud to announce the return of the Bermuda Open Championship next month at Port Royal Golf Course,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“The event was once seen as the crown jewel of Bermuda golf. After years of work, and in a key partnership with Gosling’s, we’re pleased to restore the event with the overall champion earning a coveted place in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.”

Brown thanked all those who were instrumental in reviving the Bermuda Open.

“We are especially grateful for the support of the Government of Bermuda, the Bermuda Tourism Authority, the organisers of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and not least the support of the team at Port Royal Golf Course, all of whom have been key to seeing the resurrection of this event on the Bermuda golf calendar,” he said.

“We look forward to welcoming a strong field comprising local, regional and overseas players to compete for this exceptional trophy and the opportunity presented to play on the PGA Tour.”

American Ben Polland won the last Bermuda Open in 2015 by two shots with Bermudian Mark Phillips claiming the amateur title by five.
