Health ministry launches online campaign of hope

A new digital campaign aims to support people struggling with substance abuse and mental health challenges.

A spokeswoman said the Department of Health has launched the Messages of Hope campaign to recognise Mental Health Awareness Day on October 10.

She explained: “Running from September 25 to October 19, the campaign invites the public, schools, businesses and community groups to create and share uplifting messages or advice — either illustrations, videos, text or songs — that provide encouragement to those struggling with depression, anxiety, substance abuse or suicidal thoughts.”

Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said the campaign was about “changing the way we view mental health”.

She added: “By sharing encouragement, we reduce stigma, remind people they are not alone and build a stronger, more compassionate Bermuda.”

Ms Wilson explained: “This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment, outlined in the 2025 Throne Speech, to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and improve how we engage with our community on such an important topic.”

Entries can be shared on Instagram and Facebook using the hashtag #WeAreNotAlone and tagging @departmentofhealthbermuda.

Individuals must tag or mention organisations in their entries if posting on their behalf, and winners in the individual, school, business and mental health organisation categories will each receive $250.

The winning business will donate prize money to a mental health charity of their choice and winners will be announced at the end of October.
