Burt to represent Bermuda in three European countries
David Burt aims to advance Bermudian relations and interests in Europe in the week ahead.
A spokeswoman said the Premier and Minister of Finance will meet regulators and government officials in Ireland, and speak at the European Insurance Forum in Dublin.
Mr Burt explained: “Bermuda is the world’s risk capital, with a vibrant re/insurance industry that provides essential protection to businesses and communities around the world.
“It is an honour to be invited to address the European Insurance Forum during Insurance Ireland’s annual conference.”
He added: “Our message is simple: Bermuda is a compliant, transparent and trusted partner to the EU in financial services.
“This government is committed to maintaining equivalence with European standards and to creating a business environment that allows our industry to thrive, innovate and address the risks of tomorrow.”
He pointed out that from 2016-24, Bermuda insurers and reinsurers paid $81 billion in general business and life claims to policyholders in the EU, while the industry generated about 9,800 jobs in the European Union and Britain.
Mr Burt will also travel to Brussels, Belgium, and Paris, France, for meetings on insurance, digital assets and international taxation.
He will be accompanied by Chidozie Ofoego, the financial secretary, Daria Anne, head of international tax compliance, Aliyyah Ahhad, director of the Government’s Brussels Office; and Brandon Sousa, the deputy UK representative.
