Steven Bridges and David Selley scaled new heights as Bermuda’s two teams produced another solid display to remain in contention for a podium finish at the Race World Offshore Key West World Championships in Florida yesterday.

Bridges and Selley finished third among the 14-strong racing fleet, their first podium finish at the event, competing in their 32-foot twin-engined Doug Wright catamaran, Team Bermuda, during another day of thrills and spills in the Super Stock class.

It was also another fruitful day for Luis Martins and Nick Imprescia, who finished fourth on board Nuff Said to also remain in the hunt.

With one race of the three-race series remaining, Team Bermuda and Nuff Said occupy third and fourth in the overall standings, and are well within striking distance of leader Raymarine.

Bridges, the Team Bermuda throttle man, was pleased with a second straight top-five showing in Florida.

“Overall, a good race and with a podium finish puts us in a good position for Sunday’s race,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“We are in third with S12 [Nuff Said] only one point behind us in the standings, so for Bermuda it’s a great showing. On to Sunday’s race for double points.”

Driver Selley added: “Pleased with the performance today. We put a lot of work into the boat last night to make it race-ready.

“Can’t thank the team enough and look forward to Sunday.”

Bridges and Selley originally finished fourth but were bumped up a spot after rival Team Nautical Ventures was disqualified for missing a buoy.

Martins and Imprescia likewise benefited from the disqualification.

“Fourth today and fourth on Wednesday, so we are happy with our performances so far,” driver Martins said.

Martins and world champion throttle man Imprescia’s race did not go without incident, having been involved in a collision with Mikalyzed on the second restart.

“Today unfortunately had three starts and had another boat run into us,” Martins said.

“Nick and I are OK. But the boat will need some work, and the plan is to get it fixed before Sunday’s race.”

Imprescia, who is making his debut with the local team, is happy to be in the contention heading into the final race.

“Luis is a true professional and the team nailed the set-up to go from tenth to fourth, which gives us good points and eyes on Sunday,” he said.

Nuff Said owner Stephen Moniz was delighted by the team’s performance.

“Happy we finished on the lead lap, and Luis and Nick did a great job again today,” he said.

Overall leaders Raymarine won yesterday’s race with Coco’s Monkey taking second.

Mikalyzed was unable to compete further after the collision with Nuff Said, while Drink-Kelo did not start the four-lap race after experiencing mechanical problems.
