Nuff Said finishes second at World Championships
There was plenty cause for celebration for local team Nuff Said after they finished second at the Race World Offshore Key West World Championships in Florida on Sunday.
Driver Luis Martins and throttle man Nick Imprescia saved the best for last as they placed second in the third and final race on-board their 32ft twin-engined Doug Wright catamaran to secure the runners-up spot behind winners Team Nautical Ventures.
“What an amazing ending to a long week of racing,” driver Martins told The Royal Gazette.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better finish today. We couldn’t have done this without Nick and Stephen Moniz [team owner] and our team.”
World champion Imprescia, who was making his debut with the local team, added: “Luis is a winning driver and Stephen assembled a winning combination. Nuff Said deserves every bit of success that I hope to reach with them.
“Special thanks to Stephen, Grant, S25 crew and all the Bermudians who welcomed me with open arms.”
Team owner Stephen Moniz was also thrilled over the team’s solid showing in their second appearance at the championships.
“I could not be more excited for how the guys finished today compared to last year when we were eleventh,” he said.
The resolve of Moniz’s team was put to the test after their boat suffered extensive damage and required major repair in a collision with rival Mikalyzed in the penultimate race of the series 48 hours earlier.
With the aid of others, the team worked frantically between races to get their boat back on the start line and keep their hopes for a podium finish alive.
“It was a race to get the boat race ready and Nuff Said pulled it off with a podium finish at the Worlds,” Moniz said.
“Grants Signature Racing was able to secure Eric Custom Composites, who hustled all day into the night with help from locals David Barbosa and Douglas Davies, along with Andrew and Trevor, to get the boat race ready for us and help secure a podium finish.”
Also flying the island’s flag at the event was Team Bermuda who narrowly missed out on the podium.
Driver David Selley and throttle man and boat owner Steven Bridges finished sixth in the final race that left them in fourth overall.
“Tough race today as we got stuck in traffic and had to fight hard to try to get to the leaders,” Bridges said.
“All in all it was a good week of racing and we did our best. Thanks to our crew, not just for this race, but for those that helped all season.
“Thanks especially to our sponsors who make this possible. To our supporters we appreciate your messages and enthusiasm - it keeps us trying hard.”
Bridges and Selley were third heading into the final race, a point ahead of Martins and Imprescia, after securing their best finish at the event of third in the penultimate race.
“All in all a good week but disappointed with our result today,” Selley said. “Couldn’t have asked to be in a better position going into today; but hey, that’s racing. Thanks to all our crew, family, supporters and sponsors.”
Janae Nesbitt, the Bermuda Power Boat Association commodore, hailed both team’s performances at the event.
“I just want to say well done and congratulations to both teams as they did very well this year in Key West bringing home a podium finish on Friday by S25 [Team Bermuda],” she said.
“Big congratulations also to S12 [Nuff Said] for a well-earned second-place overall finish after a spectacular performance today.
“Both Bermuda teams are doing great things and I love seeing them put Bermuda on the map. I look forward to seeing what is in store for the 2026 race season.”
