Bremar takes over helm of Bermuda Snooker Association
Steven Bremar hopes to restore local snooker to its glory days in his new capacity as Bermuda Snooker Association president.
The Warwick Workmen’s Club II captain succeeded Paul Fedden in the leadership role after the latter resigned as a result of personal commitments at the association’s Annual General Meeting.
Bremar will now serve in the top post for at least the next two years, during which time he hopes to lure more players to the sport and enhance the league.
“We hope to incorporate new players,” Bremar told The Royal Gazette.
“It’s hard to get players because snooker is played in private clubs and people just don’t walk in there and are able to play. So we are hoping that we can open the door with pool players and some other younger players to come through and hopefully things will grow to where they used to be.
“Moving forward we are going to have more talks with the pool league as far as trying to encourage players because we do have people that play pool and snooker. We want to put a couple of tournaments out and hopefully have new faces represent in the International Snooker League next year.
“The clubs that are already running need people to keep it going and sometimes you have to fight at the beginning of the season to get a team. But we manage to keep it going and that’s all we want to do; we want to try to keep the league going and hopefully enhance it.”
The experienced and highly successful player felt compelled to take on the leadership role when the opportunity arose.
“Paul Fedden resigned and I thought it was s good idea because I love snooker and want to try to keep it going,” Bremar said. “Sometimes people don’t like to step up to the plate and somebody has got to do the job.”
Despite taking on the added responsibility, Bremar has no intention to stop playing the sport.
“It won't affect me because I have played snooker long enough to put things into perspective,” he said.
The association’s executive consists of vice-president Richard Burton, secretary Kenya Trott, treasurer Pam Qudaroy and committee member Alan Smith.
Bremar said the 2025-26 league campaign is already in full swing and has reminded the association’s membership that registration for the Tony DeSilva Memorial Cup expires on December 5.
