Markel has named Sandra Soares as its new chief operating officer for Bermuda and head of professional liability. The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

In the dual role, Ms Soares will take charge of the Bermuda office’s strategic operations, while leading the island’s professional liability team.

Her responsibilities will include overseeing underwriting strategy, portfolio performance and team development, as well as strengthening relationships with brokers and clients.

Markel said Ms Soares would also work across product lines to support regulatory compliance and help deliver solutions for clients facing increasingly complex risks.
