Robin Hood leapfrogged fellow title contenders Somerset Trojans to take top position in the First Division at the weekend.

Sergio Goater’s team thrashed bottom side Vasco da Gama 10-2 at PHC Field on Sunday to replace Trojans at the summit on goal difference with both sides level on 18 points.

Keishen Bean led the onslaught for Hood with four goals to take his league leading tally to 16. Xahvi Deroza and Sebastian Davis scored two each with Cory Booth and Kimani Davis also getting onto the scoresheet.

Milton Carreiro and Logan Viera replied for Vasco.

Goater was happy to get the victory after his team’s loss to Somerset Eagles in the Shield final on New Year’s Day.

“First of all it was good to get back to winning ways after losing the final,” he told The Royal Gazette.

“That was a bitter blow to us, so to get back to winning ways is obviously a good thing, and to do it by scoring so many goals. The problem is conceding two goals, so that’s a bit of a damper on the match.

“But there is still a way to go and I keep reminding the players this is the hardest part now; having to do it all over again.

“But it’s always good to be in the lead, so we are on our way to achieving our goal of being promoted.”

Somerset also got back to winning ways after losing to Hood in the Shield semi-final over the festive holiday courtesy of a hard fought 1-0 triumph over Wolves at Bernard Park on Friday night with Kymani McNeil scoring the only goal of the game.

The remaining match featured Shield champions Somerset Eagles come away with a 2-0 shut out win over St David’s Warriors at White Hill Field on Sunday.

After a goalless first half, Rushaie Murphy finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute before Zico Saltus- Seymour doubled the hosts advantage five minutes later to put the game beyond reach.
