Bermuda Under-17 men’s squad named for World Cup qualifiers
Bermuda’s squad for the Concacaf under-17 Men’s World Cup Qualifiers has been announced.
The 21-member team are preparing for matches in group H, to be played in Honduras. Bermuda clash with Guyana next Friday, before taking on Suriname two days later and squaring off with the host nation on February 11.
Speaking before the team departs for Orlando, Florida, for a training camp on Friday, coach Aaron Denkins expressed optimism about Bermuda’s chances of qualifying.
“This is the second of the yearly Fifa World Cup and we are excited to participate again after hosting our under-17 group last year,” Denkins said.
“We have some players who have experience playing at this level, having participated in the Concacaf qualifiers last year and are doing well overseas on their football journey.
“We are looking forward to doing well and qualifying for the World Cup, which will take place in November in Qatar.”
Denkins has inherited some of the players who did duty on home turf last year. Curtis Jackson Jr, Tyler Steede, Amir Brangman-Johnson and Na’im Zuill were part of the side when Bermuda hosted the qualifiers last year.
Exciting prospects such as goalkeeper Nuri Latham, who was signed by UK Championship side Preston North End in March last year, Jeon Wolfe, Z’Ani Jennings, Rylan DeSilva and Zydon Lightbourne Furbert are some of the players that have graduated from the under-15 age group.
Goalkeepers: Nuri Latham, Curtis Jackson Jr, Ethan Adderley
