Premier Division title chasers North Village and Dandy are taking to the field at Devonshire Rec one after the other on Friday night.

Champions Village will seek to keep their league aspirations alive when they clash with unpredictable Boulevard in the first match of the night (7pm) before it will be Town’s turn to keep up with the leading pack as they meet Devonshire Cougars (9pm).

After Boulevard pushed leaders PHC all the way in the FA Cup quarter-finals last Saturday, Village coach Calvin Dill Jr is not taking Troy Smith’s side lightly.

“It’s not going to be an easy game as Boulevard are fighting for survival,” Dill told The Royal Gazette.

“They’re going to come out and play hard and they have that never-say-die spirit. We have to come out and match their intensity and use our tactics to win the game.

“I don't know if PHC took them lightly or if the weather affected them, But I know the Boulevard spirit and I know they have a lot of fighters that can fight to the end and they’re not going to give up.”

Village have five league matches left to play and Dill believes that they are still in the title race.

“We're still fighting for the league,” the Village coach said.

“We have to keep pushing forward and keep looking for the results. Anything can happen so we have to keep winning and give ourselves a chance.”

Town coach Jarreau Hayward is anticipating a tough assignment against Cougars. With Devonshire Colts playing on Saturday and PHC in action on Sunday, victory for Hayward’s side will see them climb to the summit of the standings.

“There’s always a battle facing Cougars, especially down at Devonshire Rec,” Hayward said.

“We’re definitely looking forward to the game and excited about the challenge. We’ll take it one half at a time and see what happens at the end of the game.”

Cougars defeated Town at White Hill Field in November, a loss Hayward thinks was a wake-up call.

“We could have been a lot better in that game but it was a good lesson for us in being complacent,” he said.

“It will be another battle on Friday night and we just need to be ready for it. We have been working hard at training and had a couple of practice games during our time off.”
