Premier joins US blockchain summit to advise policies
The Premier is representing Bermuda during a two-day summit on blockchain in Washington DC.
David Burt was among legislators and industry professionals to discuss digital asset regulation, as well as how to stay innovative and competitive in the field.
Mr Burt, who joined the summit yesterday, said his being here reflected how Bermuda leadership in the space was built on “practical policy, strong partnerships and collaboration”.
He added: “This summit is an opportunity to continue that work and share best practices with our US counterparts at an important moment for the industry.
“As the United States advances its own regulatory framework, there is a clear opportunity to align our approaches on digital payments, financial innovation and market standards.
“Bermuda has committed to transitioning to an on-chain economy and the partnerships we build at forums like this are essential to ensuring that transition is responsible, aligned with international standards and beneficial for both jurisdictions.”
The summit, which ends today, helped to outlined the US’s planned Clarity Act, which is set to structure the country’s blockchain market.
Mr Burt will talk to policymakers about their priorities, such as stablecoin frameworks, tokenised markets, digital asset insurance and financial market integrity.
Bermuda’s Digital Asset Business Act and the processes of the Bermuda Monetary Authority will serve as examples on how Bermuda’s market is structured.
Mr Burt will also talk to the Stellar Development Foundation, which assisted Bermuda in its digital finance strategy.
