BermudAir has halted its service between Bermuda and New York LaGuardia, but is set to boost airlift to several other destinations next month.

The Bermudian-based airline launched the service to LaGuardia on October 29 last year, but grounded it this month, with the last flight taking place on April 18.

A BermudAir spokeswoman said the decision to halt the service was because of the limited availability of take-off and landing slots at the New York end.

She said: “The airline’s previous operations relied on slots that had been temporarily made available by another carrier, and those slots have since been reclaimed.

“LaGuardia, particularly the Marine Air Terminal, offers an exceptional customer experience and remains one of the quickest and most seamless routes between Bermuda and New York City.

“BermudAir recognises the strong appeal of this service and is actively exploring opportunities to secure permanent slot allocations in the future with the goal of reinstating the route.

“In the meantime, BermudAir continues to provide alternative access to the New York area, including service to Westchester County Airport, offering a highly convenient and efficient travel experience, often compared to flying through a private terminal, with minimal congestion, quick processing times and easy access to Manhattan and the surrounding region.”

The spokeswoman also noted the airline’s service to Newark, New Jersey, adding: “BermudAir remains committed to delivering a premium, customer-focused travel experience and appreciates the continued support of its passengers.”

The May flight schedule, published by Skyport, shows the airline plans to boost service to several destinations as of May 25.

As of that date, BermudAir will offer daily service to Boston, six weekly flights to Toronto and three weekly flights to Newark.

It will slightly reduce service between Bermuda and Halifax from three flights to two on the same date.

The airline is expected to continue to offer three weekly flights to Westchester and two weekly flights to Baltimore, Montreal and Orlando.

Several other airlines are also scheduled to adjust their schedules in May as the busier summer season approaches.

American Airlines is scheduled to relaunch its seasonal service between Bermuda and Philadelphia on May 21, operating five flights a week on the route.

The airline is expected to continue its daily service to Charlotte, New York and Miami throughout the month.

JetBlue, meanwhile, will restart its daily service between Bermuda and New York JFK on May 21, while maintaining its daily service to Boston.

Air Canada is scheduled to double the number of weekly flights between Bermuda and Toronto from two to four.

British Airways is scheduled to continue daily service between Bermuda and London Heathrow, while United Airlines will maintain daily service to Newark, and Delta Air Lines will offer four weekly flights to New York and three weekly flights to Atlanta.
