The Ministry of Public Works and Environment will host a networking event to connect local contractors with international bidders to replacing the ageing Swing Bridge.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Environment said the event was about “creating space for connection”.

He explained: “We want to ensure that local contractors have the opportunity to introduce themselves, showcase their capabilities and be part of the conversation as this major infrastructure project moves forward.”

The spokesman added: “While the Government is facilitating this opportunity, we will remain removed from any direct discussions between parties.

“It is important that all participants approach these interactions with a clear understanding that attendance does not guarantee work, nor does it constitute any form of prequalification or endorsement.”

The Government put out calls last week for partners in exchanging the 60-year-old East End bridge for a new structure just east of the original.

Expressions of interest were invited from tradesman including general and marine contractors, welders, crane and barge operators and consultants.

These will be used to support potential Swing Bridge general contractors in finding subcontractors for project planning.

Local contractors and international bidders who attend the event were encouraged to conduct their own due diligence when exploring partnerships.

The meet-and-greet will take place in the Oleander Room at the Grotto Bay Beach Resort and Spa in Hamilton Parish on May 8 between 2.30pm and 6.30pm.
