Cardiff keen to offer Nathan Trott permanent deal
Cardiff City are hoping to secure the services of Bermudian goalkeeper Nathan Trott on a permanent basis, according to an English media report.
The 27-year-old helped the Bluebirds make an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship after dropping into League One for the first time in more than 20 years last season.
However, head coach Brian Barry-Murphy has no intention of parting ways with his No 1 shot stopper just yet, BBC Sport Wales reported.
It added that Cardiff City are hopeful of signing Trott permanently following the goalkeeper's promotion-winning season on loan from Copenhagen.
Trott joined the Bluebirds last summer and has played 41 League One games for the club as they have secured an instant return to the Championship.
He has impressed with his shot-stopping as well as his ability on the ball, helping Barry-Murphy implement an expansive new playing style.
Trott's performances also earned him a nomination for Cardiff's player of the season.
“The Bluebirds have held positive talks with the former England youth international as they aim to turn his season-long loan into a permanent move as part of their preparations for life back in the second tier,” the BBC reported.
The Welsh club sealed automatic promotion from League One with three games to spare and finish their League One campaign at Mansfield Town on Saturday.
Cardiff have an option to sign Trott permanently but it is believed that several Championship clubs have shown an interest in the player, with Tipsbladet, a weekly sports magazine focusing on football, reporting that the goalkeeper has rebuffed the club’s advances.
“Trott has so far rejected Cardiff’s offers and is looking elsewhere for his options, which are many,” it reported.
“At the same time, he is open to a return to FC Copenhagen after a completely new sporting management has arrived with the farewell to Sune Smith-Nielsen and Jacob Neestrup.
“Maybe Trott will end up back in Copenhagen, where his contract runs until the summer of 2028.”
Trott joined the Welsh side on a season-long loan from Danish Superliga champions FC Copenhagen last August and has conceded 46 goals in as many appearances in all competitions and kept 16 clean sheets to date this season.
