Man in contempt of court for threat on magistrate
A man was found in contempt of court this morning after he threatened to punch a magistrate.
Junius Caines constantly interrupted magistrate Maria Sofianos and insulted the Legal Aid Office when he appeared in court.
Caines, 57, has been in custody since February after being charged with burglary, prowling and theft.
Caines asked multiple times this morning for the cases to be sent to Supreme Court, but Ms Sofianos denied the requests.
Caines, of no fixed abode, then told Ms Sofionaos he would “teach you a lesson,” and “punch you right in your f*****g mouth” and threw punches at a police and corrections officer who escorted him out of the courtroom.
Ms Sofianos fined Caines $2,000 for contempt and sentenced him to 14 days behind bars if he could not pay.
