Bermuda’s best pickleball players closed out the third annual Kim Burns Memorial tournament in some style last week.

Members of Bermuda’s winning Caribbean Pickleball Championships team were in action to claim some of the top prizes at the tournament, which lasted for almost a week and with categories for all abilities.

There was a shock in the 4.5 Mixed Doubles (Open) division with top seeds Gavin Manders and Patricia Mills beaten by Melisa Judd and Benjamin Jones in the semi-finals.

That made Judd and Jones favourites to pick up the title but they were beaten to the gold medal by Jasper Thomas and Lily Hallett, who prevailed in a tight final 6-11, 11-7, 11-8. Manders and Mills picked up the bronze medal.

Manders can never be kept off the top spot of the podium for very long and he teamed up with Jones to beat Thomas and Tom Mills in the Men’s Doubles 4.5 division.

Mills and Judd combined to beat Hallett and Naphisa Smith 11-7, 11-1 in the final of the 4.0 Women's Doubles, with Rachel Sawden and Lucy Yiasoumi taking the bronze medal.

In the 4.0 Women's Doubles (50+), the gold medal was won by Leslie Jackson and Emma Simmons in an epic final. The duo beat Val Stevenson and Tori Powell 4-11, 12-10, 12-10. Wenda Roberts and Marie-Helene Pare won the bronze medal.

Smith and Rian Michelsen won the 4.0 Mixed Doubles competition, beating Yiasoumi and Johnny Singleton in the final. Pare and Ryan Hayward finished third.

In the 4.0 Men’s Doubles division, bragging rights went to Aman Sanganeria and Nicolas van der Westhuizen, who beat Michelsen and Neils van der Velden 5-11, 11-8, 12-10 in a fiercely fought final. The team of Xavier James Oly and Scott Redmond were third

Ryon Outerbridge and Muhammad Khan came out on top in the 4.0 Mens Doubles (50+) division, beating Vincent Chaves and Jose Barroso 11-4, 11-4 in the final. Michael Burns and Buggy Powell won the bronze medal.

In the 4.0 Mixed Doubles (50+) division, Duane Simons and Roberts won gold, beating Simmons and Chaves 11-6, 11-7 in the final. Barroso and Christine Todd took home bronze

Julie Matthews-Borchardt and Aman Sanganeria won the 3.5 Mixed Doubles category, dropping just three points in a convincing 11-2, 11-1 victory over Edgar Griffith and Fiona Donaldson in the final. Theodosios Caimassidis and Pearl Ingram won bronze.
