Technological breakthroughs engineered by Paradise Mobile teams should be shared with the industry, a company executive has told The Royal Gazette.

Zlatko Zahirovic, Paradise cofounder and chief technology officer, said solutions developed to bring the company online nearly three years ago had sparked industry-wide interest.

Paradise needed to find a way to connect mobile phones with their new technology. In solving that problem for their company, solutions with a wider application were realised.

It was one of the reasons Paradise Mobile was asked to take a leading role in the technical governance of Global System for Mobile Communications Association’s North America region.

As previously reported, Mr Zahirovic has been appointed deputy chairman of the GSMA’s regional Terminals Working Group, meaning the Bermudian-based operator will help guide technical strategy for how mobile devices function across North America.

With all the 21st-century sophistication in a modern day smartphone, Mr Zahirović said it still has a long way to go in its development.

He said: “What happens with the handsets is this feeling that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. The problem is that the amount of enhancements to be done on those types of devices is profound.”

He said: “In essence, we had rebuilt from the ground up what it would take for the handset to work on the network in the most efficient way possible.”

The GSMA is the global organisation representing the interests of mobile network operators and the wider tech industry, uniting more than 750 mobile networks and establishing international standards.

Within the GSMA, the Terminals Working Group brings together global tech giants, phone manufacturers, microchip creators and telecom carriers to ensure devices and mobile networks work well together.
