Emma Harvey set a national record in the 50 metres butterfly in Europe at the weekend.

Harvey lowered her own mark of 26.59sec to 26.54 at the prestigious Mare Nostrum Series, which consists of three major meets in three different European cities in the space of eight days.

The event features some of the world’s best swimmers, with Harvey finishing sixth in the 50 fly final in Barcelona behind Roos Vanotterdijk, from Belgium, who won a silver medal at the 2025 World Championships.

Also finishing just ahead of Harvey was Taylor Ruck, from Canada, who has won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games and eight medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

While Harvey was setting new marks in the pool in Europe, some of Bermuda’s best swimmers competed in the National Long Course Championships at the National Sports Centre.

Logan Jones was one of the meet’s top performers, qualifying for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in Vancouver in August with a time of 54:07. That display helped Jones to be crowned national champion in the 13 and over boys division after he racked up 3,457 points.

That gave him a winning margin of 109 points over runner-up Axel Wernbo, with Joseph Lau third (3,293).

Katherine Wheddon finished as the top swimmer in the 13 and over girls category. Wheddon finished on 3,955 points, with Jorgia White (3,332) and Lila Connolly (3,048) finishing second and third respectively.

Maxwell Williams headed the standings in the 12 and under boys division with 1,702 points. Kanyon Armstrong (1,541) and Walker Smith (1,536) filled the podium positions.

In the 12 and under girls age group, the gold medal was won by Eva Desjardins, who picked up 2,664 points during the course of the three-day meet. Charlotte Henderson (2,457) was second with Evelyn Fahy (2,180) third.
