Two men in Supreme Court on prison assault charges

Two men charged with assaulting an officer in prison appeared in court yesterday.

Jamie Cann Jr and Tyrese Lee, both pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting the prison officer at Westgate Correctional Facility on December 14, 2025.

They also denied a second charge of intimidating two officers at the prison on the same day with intent to cause alarm.

Puisne Judge Juan Wolffe adjourned the case until July 6 for arraignment.

In addition, Superintendent Jerome Laws, of the Bermuda Police Service, who faces a charge of causing grievous bodily harm by dangerous driving, had his next court appearance set.

Mr Laws is further accused of refusing a breath test.

Both matters are alleged to have occurred on December 19, 2025 in Warwick. No plea was entered to either charge.

Mr Laws, represented by defence lawyer Charles Richardson, is also to return to court on July 6.
