Repeat sex offender receives another conviction
A serial sex offender was convicted in Magistrates’ Court yesterday of intruding on a woman’s privacy.
Devaun Cox, 41, denied the charge when he first appeared in court in August last year — but magistrate Auralee Cassidy found him guilty of the offence.
Cox, a registered sex offender said to have mental health challenges, committed the intrusion on August 20, months after he was was sentenced to jail for behaving “in an indecent manner” outside City Hall.
Ms Cassidy ordered social inquiry and mental health reports be written for Cox, adjourned the case to August 4 for sentencing and remanded him in custody until then.
Cox was first sentenced to six months behind bars for intruding on a girl’s privacy in 2012, followed by a three-year term for a similar offence in 2013.
He was convicted of intruding on a girl’s privacy for a third time in 2017, which was upheld on appeal in 2018.
Cox was jailed for six months in 2022 after sexually assaulting a patient at the Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute.
He was further sentenced to one year behind bars for another sexual assault that took place days after being released from Westgate Correctional Facility in 2023.
This sentence was changed to 21 months in prison after Cox violated his probation.
He was then sentenced to six months’ imprisonment last year for acting indecently outside City Hall.
He was convicted yesterday of intruding on a woman’s privacy in August 2025.
