Bermuda’s promising track and field talent was on display at the Abu Dhabi Champions on Sunday with Robinson sisters, Raelyn and Reyna, delivering outstanding performances across various events.

In the under-10 category, Raelyn delivered an exceptional display, with a stellar quadruple gold medal clean sweep in the 80 metres, 150, 300 and long jump, ultimately securing the Abu Dhabi Champion girl title. The 8-year-old narrowly missed out on the record in the 80.

“I had a lot of fun competing in Abu Dhabi and I met some new friends,” Raelyn said.

“I didn’t do as well as I hoped in the long jump, but I got it done. We used to live in Dubai and it’s always great to visit.”

Not to be outdone by her elder sister, Reyna held her own in the under-8 category with two podium finishes, securing a gold in 150 and a silver medal in the 80m dash.

“The race was so much fun,” the 6-year-old said.

“This is my first gold medal in a real race, so I’m really happy about that.”

The experience proved to be an exciting and inspiring event for the two young athletes, with their parents, Chez and Wes Robinson, expressing pride in their children’s performance.

“The two girls captured the attention of World Athletics and USATF coaches,” the parents said.

“They garnered applause from spectators and UAE track clubs alike, putting Bermuda on the map and etching their mark in the Emirates track and field history.

“Their performance underscored the importance of nurturing and supporting young talent.”

A representative of Ultimate Sports Athletics, organisers of the elite youth and adult event, applauded the two girls for their display.

“We congratulate the girls on their dedication and determination,” the representative said.

“Experiences such as this highlight the efforts of young athletes, allow them to showcase their talents, foster a love and passion for sports on an international stage.”
