Saltus educator ‘is inspiring’

Outstanding educator: Shayne Scott

Dear Sir,

As I prepare to leave Bermuda after serving as an educator at Saltus Grammar School for the past three years, I feel compelled to publicly celebrate Shayne Scott, Assistant Director of Middle School at Saltus. Before I leave the island, I want the people of Bermuda to know how special he is and how fortunate they are to have someone of his character, compassion, and dedication serving their young people and community. Throughout my years in education, I have worked with many administrators, but Mr Scott stands among the very best. He consistently showed genuine care for both staff and students. His concern for people was not something spoken about; it was evident in his daily actions.

Mr Scott led our weekly Thursday assemblies, where he went above and beyond to celebrate student accomplishments. He has a remarkable ability to make students feel valued, recognised and encouraged. Whether achievements were large or small, he ensured students knew their efforts mattered. In every interaction, even during difficult situations involving student behaviour or parent concerns, he remained professional, compassionate and calm. He listened carefully, treated people with respect, and sought solutions rather than blame.

Recently, I attended two services where he serves as pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Pembroke and heard him preach. This reinforced what I had already observed in school. His messages were inspiring, uplifting, and grounded in a genuine love for people and community. What impresses me most is that Mr Scott gives his best to everything he does. Whether serving students, supporting staff, leading within the school, ministering to his congregation, or contributing to the wider community, he does so with integrity, humility, and purpose.

As I leave Bermuda, I carry many fond memories, but one of the most meaningful is working alongside Mr Scott. Too often, exceptional people go unrecognised, and I did not want to leave without expressing my gratitude publicly. Bermuda should know it has a leader who genuinely cares, inspires others, and makes a positive difference every day. He is a credit to Saltus, his church, and the Bermuda community.
