Eating out: Bermuda’s best outdoor dining spots

Harbour views: with sweeping views across Hamilton Harbour, Aurora offers one of the island's most scenic dining experiences (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

One of the best things about summer in Bermuda is that almost every meal can be enjoyed outdoors. Whether you're planning a long lunch overlooking the ocean, sunset cocktails with friends or a special celebration by the sea, these are some of my favourite spots to dine alfresco this season.

For waterfront dining: 1609 Bar & Restaurant, Hamilton Princess

Few restaurants embrace Bermuda's waterfront quite like 1609. Sitting over Hamilton Harbour, it's the perfect place to settle in for lunch, sunset drinks or dinner with a view.

Order: Fried Golden Shrimp to start, followed by the Birria Tacos, with a Spicy Margarita on the side.

For a sunset dinner: Achilles

If you're chasing the perfect sunset, Achilles is hard to beat. With panoramic views across the South Shore, it's one of the island's most spectacular places to end the day.

Order: Coconut Sashimi, Honey Chili Beef and Souvlaki to share, paired with either the Koh Paradise or Pineapple Haze cocktail.

For a long lunch: Pink Beach Club at The Loren

Some lunches deserve to linger, and Pink Beach Club is made for exactly that. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it's the kind of place where one cocktail turns into two and nobody is watching the clock.

Order: The Whipped Goat Cheese to start, followed by the Grilled Prawns, Whole Red Snapper or Filet Mignon.

For date night: Intrepid, Hamilton Princess

If you're looking to impress, Intrepid delivers every time. Elegant without feeling stuffy, it's one of Bermuda's best restaurants for a special evening.

Order: The Intrepid Roll and Crab Cakes to start with either a Mermaid Margarita or Princess 75. For the main course, the Striploin Flight with Smokehouse Mac & Cheese or Potato Gratin and Creamed Spinach is hard to beat.

For casual alfresco dining: Munchies, St George's

Sometimes simple is exactly what you're craving. Munchies has become a favourite for relaxed outdoor dining in the East End, serving generous portions of fresh seafood in an easygoing setting.

Order: Wahoo and Fries or the Munchies Fish Sandwich with one of their homemade juices.

For garden views: Huckleberry

Hidden within the Rosedon Hotel, Huckleberry offers one of Bermuda's prettiest garden settings. Surrounded by lush greenery, it's the perfect spot for a leisurely lunch or dinner.

Order: Fresh Baked Focaccia to start, followed by the BBQ Fish Skewer, Crispy Cauliflower Florets, the Huckleberry Salad or the Huckleberry Tacos.

For cocktails and small plates: The Cloud

The Cloud is the kind of place where you settle in for one drink and end up staying all evening. The relaxed atmosphere and shareable menu make it perfect for catching up with friends over cocktails.

Order: House Bruschetta, Truffle Mac & Cheese Bites, Tatchos, Jalapeño Popper Devilled Eggs and Sesame Ginger Tofu Rolls to share.

For A beach vibe: Coconuts Beach BBQ at The Reefs

Few dining experiences are more memorable than dinner with your toes in the sand. The Reefs' Beach BBQ at Coconuts combines spectacular ocean views with freshly grilled favourites in one of Bermuda's most romantic settings.

Order: Build your plate with fresh salads and sides alongside grilled mahi-mahi, pork ribs, sliders and whatever's coming straight off the barbecue.

For harbour views: Aurora

With sweeping views across Hamilton Harbour, Aurora offers one of the island's most scenic dining experiences. Whether you're visiting for brunch, lunch or dinner, the ever-changing backdrop makes every meal feel like an occasion.

Order: Tuna Tartare or the Prickly Pear Ceviche to start, followed by the Garlic Butter Tiger Prawns, Lemon Sole Meunière or the Slow-Braised Short Ribs.

Worth the drive: Breezes at Cambridge Beaches

If you're looking for an excuse to head west, Breezes delivers. Overlooking Mangrove Bay, it's one of Bermuda's most picturesque waterfront restaurants and well worth the drive.

Order: Escovitch Jerk Mussels or Pepper Shrimp to start, followed by the Rasta Pasta, Coastal Style entrée or the Breezes Bermuda Fish Sandwich. If you're sharing, don't skip the Buffalo Chicken Mac & Cheese Bites.
