Swimmer Emma Harvey qualified for the 100 metres butterfly semi-final at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday morning.

Harvey, who was forced to withdraw from the 100 metres backstroke through sickness 24 hours earlier, made her return to the pool in the third of four 100 fly heats.

She finished fourth in a time of 1min 0.45sec behind heat winner Erin Gallagher, from South Africa, but Harvey’s time was enough for to qualify eleventh fastest and she will take her chance in the semi-finals at 4.34pm Bermuda time.

Elan Daley stormed to first place in her heat of the women’s 100 metres freestyle at the Commonwealth Games, but missed out on a semi-final slot despite posting a time of 56.66sec.

Daley took part in heat two of nine and was 4.62sec ahead of the next finisher, Kennice Greene of Vincent and the Grenadines. Daley was the twentieth fastest swimmer out of 64 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre this morning.

The fastest in the heats was Australia’s Meg Harris, who won gold in the 4x100m freestyle at the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. Her time was 53.91.

The 21-year-old also competed in the 100 metres butterfly but was disqualified.
