Bermudian boxer Tyler Christopher, commonly known as Mike Tyler, has vowed to capitalise on his opponent’s mistakes when he takes on Mauro Silva, of Portugal, in England, tomorrow (3pm Bermuda time).

The eight-round middleweight bout at First Direct Bank Arena in Leeds, will be broadcast live internationally on DAZN Boxing. Christopher (12-0) and Silva (9-0) are yet to taste defeat, setting the stage for an exciting contest.

“Silva makes a lot of mistakes,” Christopher said.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good boxer, but he makes a lot of mistakes and on Saturday, we’re going to make him pay.

“He’s been out of the ring for about 14 months and I last fought in March. The pressure’s not on me, it’s on him.”

With backing from PrimeTimeTv, who announced their sponsorship last month, the 30-year-old is naturally a super-welterweight, but he is stepping into middleweight against the 24-year-old. Today, the Bermudian and his opponent made weight for the contest.

“This is my chance for a big break right now,” the Bermudian said.

“It’s the first time on live television and this is what I’ve been calling for since I moved to England in 2019.

“This is what I’ve been striving for. When people chase their goals, this is like the final point for me chasing my goal.

“I’ve already reached my goal just to even get into this position. But I want to come out victorious because afterwards, the world’s my oyster.

“I’m grateful to all my sponsors, RW Property Management & Maintenance, Flower Wall Bermuda, Mount Hill Community and PrimeTimeTv.

“To all the Bermudians, just support me and I’m looking to put on a good performance.”

While Christopher and Silva are fighting on the Boxxer promotion undercard for the Callum Simpson versus Troy Williamson rematch, promoter Ben Shalom has highlighted this specific match-up as a potential candidate for “fight of the night” due to the high-stakes, 50-50 nature of two prospects putting their perfect records on the line.

“I think the fight of the night might be the Tyler Christopher one against Mauro Silva, two unbeaten guys,” Shalom said.

“Tyler is coming to absolutely take Mauro’s head off. It’s a phenomenal card from top to bottom.

“The stream is full of 50-50s as well and the arena is going to be full from about 5pm. It’s going to be a big night all on DAZN Boxing.”
