Sally Port not impacted by fires

Two large fires at Sally Port did not impact the Dockyard site, the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service confirmed last week.

The Royal Gazette contacted the BFRS days after crews worked to quell flames near the facility, where acids, paints, compressed gas and other special waste items should be dropped off.

That blaze came weeks after a fire broke out on the other side of the site.

A BFRS spokesman said on Friday that both fires involved “trees in the surrounding area near the water side and did not impact the Sally Port facility”.

Crews also tackled a small fire at Tynes Bay, where most other waste is disposed of, last Monday.

Some garbage in Sandys and Southampton was not collected on that day as a result of the blaze.
