Douglas and Bascome centuries power Rangers to landslide victory
Allan Douglas Jr smashed a double century and Onias Bascome an equally explosive hundred as Premier Division 50 overs leaders Southampton Rangers opened the floodgates on the way to a landslide 512- run victory against Willow Cuts at Southampton Oval on Sunday.
The hosts stacked up a massive 557 all out in 47.5 overs after electing to bat, with Douglas belting an unbeaten 218 from 79 balls, which contained 21 sixes and 15 boundaries, and Bascome 114 from 60 balls including ten sixes and eight fours.
No Cuts bowler was spared the carnage, with captain Ras Solomon Burrows going for 102 from seven overs, Sheldon Caesar one for 99 from ten and Jalen Wales 45 in 1.5 overs.
Toronto Darrell was Cuts most successful bowler with three for 55, while Gerald Burchall took two for 15, and Chakote Wainwright (one for 88), Sergio Raynor (one for 67), Burrows and Caesar one each.
Rangers were just as ruthless in the field as they dismissed Cuts for 45 in 12.4 overs, with all-rounders Douglas (four for 19), Delray Rawlins (four for four) and Dion Stovell (two for three) bagging all of the visitors wickets between them.
Burrows (22) was the only Cuts batter in double figures, with four being dismissed for ducks.
The visitors were 35 without loss before losing all of their wickets for the addition of ten runs in the space of nine overs.
Elsewhere, St George’s handed champions St David’s a 163 run loss at Lord’s.
St George’s scored 238 for seven in 45 overs after electing to bat.
Vice-captain Macai Simmons led the scoring with 66 while Jonte’ Smith added 55, Keegan Jones 38, Nazari Paynter 32 and Zeko Burgess 26.
Isaiah O’Brien (three for 32) and Justin Pitcher (two for 45) were the pick of the St David’s bowling.
The home side replied with 75 for nine in 23.1 overs after all-rounder OJ Pitcher retired hurt on 13.
Wicketkeeper Ricardo Brangman Jr stroked a team-high 27 and was the only other St David’s batter in double figures.
The home side were 54 for three at one stage before losing their remaining six wickets for 21 runs in eight overs.
Rahul Sapra (six for 12) was the pick of the St George’s bowling, while Sa-Qui Robinson took two for 22 and Jones one for six.
In First Division 50 overs play, leaders Cleveland County defeated fellow title and promotion hopefuls Flatts Victoria by 44 runs at Wellington Oval.
The home side posted 215 for eight in 46 overs after electing to bat with Makai Young leading the way with 84.
Young then claimed three for 30 to also lead his team’s bowling attack and cap a fine all round display as Flatts were dismissed for 171 in 44.1 overs.
Elsewhere, hosts Devonshire defeated PHC by five wickets at Devonshire Recreation Club.
Devonshire pair PJ Thomas (four for 31) and Orlando Maulseed (three for 24) claimed seven wickets between them as PHC were dismissed for 113 in 24.5 overs after electing to bat.
Gerald Simons II (27), Shakai Trott (26), Jazhardae Samuels (24) and Brandon Trott (20) then led the chase for the hosts, who replied with 115 for 5 in 22.5 overs.
