Nathan Trott’s heroics help to earn Cardiff a point

Nathan Trott made a string of fantastic saves as Cardiff opened their Championship season with a 1-1 draw against Wrexham on Monday night.

After Kieffer Moore put the visitors ahead in the third minute, the Red Dragons threatened to run away with it, but Trott ensured it stayed at 1-0.

The Bermudian reacted superbly to tip over Callum Doyle’s powerful header and keep his side within touching distance.

Visiting Wrexham grew into the game after the break and Trott was called on again. He pushed another Doyle effort around the post, then showed safe hands to make a clean take from Nathan Broadhead’s strike.

Playing in front of more than 30,000 fans at Cardiff City Stadium, Trott’s composure gave his side the platform to push late.

Eight minutes into stoppage time, Rubin Colwill stepped up and curled a superb free kick beyond the wall to earn the Bluebirds a well-deserved point on their return to the Championship.

Meanwhile, another Bermudian goalkeeper, Milai Perott, has signed for Corby Town. The 22-year-old was released by Notts County at the end of last season, just days after watching the Magpies seal promotion to League One.

Corby compete in the Northern Premier League Midlands Division — the eighth tier of English football. With new ownership in place, the club has made no secret of its ambition to reach the National League for the first time in its history, with the Bermuda goalkeeper likely to play a key part in that push.
