A Hamilton ophthalmology practice is offering a free vision screening clinic next Thursday in recognition of World Sight Day.

Led by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness, World Sight Day is marked each year on the second Thursday of October.

For 2026, the global campaign continues under the banner #LoveYourEyes, calling on people everywhere to put their own eye health first and urging governments to make accessible, affordable eye care a priority.

This year, the campaign aims to gather five million personal pledges to #LoveYourEyes, one for every voice calling for eye care that reaches everyone.

Insight Comprehensive Eye Care is hosting the free appointments at Milner Place, 32 Victoria Street, Hamilton.

“A screening only takes a few minutes, but it can make a lifetime of difference,” said Lucia Kuffová, consultant ophthalmologist at Insight.

“We regularly see patients whose conditions could have been caught much sooner. Many of them had no idea anything was wrong because their vision felt normal. World Sight Day is a good reason to stop putting it off and get your eyes checked.”

The screening is especially worthwhile for adults over 40, people living with diabetes or high blood pressure, anyone with a family history of glaucoma and those who have noticed changes such as blurred vision, difficulty seeing at night or glare from lights. Anyone found to need further assessment will be advised on the appropriate next steps.

Booking is by appointment only. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. To book, call 292-2992.

Insight is also encouraging the community to support the charities that help people living with sight loss and eye disease — including Vision Bermuda, the Bermuda Diabetes Association and the Lady Cubitt Compassionate Association.
