Play-off at 9am to decide winner of Butterfield Bermuda Championship
A play-off will take place to decide the winner of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship with the final 18 holes cancelled.
With high winds forcing play to be abandoned on Sunday and with tournament organisers feeling the forecast for Monday was not conducive to complete a full round, the decision was made to settle the tournament after 54 holes.
However, with Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman tied at the top of the leaderboard on 16 under, a play-off has been scheduled for 9am on Monday at Port Royal Golf Course to decide the winner, with the iconic 16th hole chosen as the play-off hole.
“Due to the unfavourable weather forecast for Monday at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship and the uncertainty surrounding the completion of the entire final round on Monday, the tournament results will be considered final through 54 holes in accordance with PGA Tour Regulations,” read a statement by the PGA Tour.
“A play-off between Seamus Power and Austin Smotherman will be conducted to determine the champion and is tentatively scheduled for 9am local time on Monday, subject to weather conditions.”
Should Power prevail in the play-off and pick up the first prize of $1.08 million he would become the first dual winner of the event, while Smotherman is chasing his second PGA Tour victory in a month after winning the Bank Of Utah Championship by two strokes just three weeks ago.
