Walk and run to raise money for diabetes charity
Runners can battle it out for their best times in a 10K event next month and raise money for charity at the same time.
The InEvo Re race on November 1 will involve runners and walkers in a bid to bring the community together and support the Bermuda Diabetes Association.
A spokesman said: “Bermuda will come together for more than just a race.
“Every kilometre run, every step walked and every volunteer lending a hand will help make a difference to the health of our island, as the InEvo Re 10K Run and 5K Walk raises vital funds for the BDA.”
The event begins at 8am and the race and was created in conjunction with the Mid Atlantic Athletic Club.
Every dollar raised goes towards the association, helping to fund free community health screenings and support activities throughout Diabetes Awareness Month in November.
On November 13, the association will open its doors on Princess Street to offer blood pressure and blood glucose screenings, nutritional advice and the opportunity to learn more about available services.
Visitors can also enjoy healthy cooking demonstrations from noon until 2pm with Rachel Wilks, a chef and owner of Two Fish In A Barrel.
Lori Rockhead, the BDA executive director, said: “Every person who takes part in this race is helping us reach someone in our community who may not otherwise have access to these important health services.
“A simple health screening can be the first step towards identifying a problem early, preventing complications and making lasting changes.”
Paul Kelly, of InEvo Re, added: “Our team will be running, walking, and volunteering, and we’re looking forward to joining the community in supporting such an important cause.”
All three race events will start near Victoria Park at the corner of Dundonald Street and Cedar Avenue.
The 5K competitive and charity walks will follow Marsh Folly Road, Dock Hill and North Shore Road, returning through Black Watch Pass to finish outside the Masters car park on Dundonald Street.
The 10K run will take participants further along North Shore Road towards Spanish Point before turning back towards the finish line.
