Dandy Town and X-Roads have a chance to claim some early season honours when they clash in the Dudley Eve Trophy final at Wellington Oval on Sunday (2.30pm).

Both sides head into the encounter in confident mood after impressive runs, setting up a clash that promises goals, intensity and plenty of bragging rights.

In the semi-finals played at Devonshire Rec last month, Town overcame Paget before X-Roads beat PHC.

X-Roads coach Farid El Karfa, who guided the side to the FA Cup final in 2019, when they lost to Robin Hood, is hoping for a better outcome on this occasion.

Danavon Thompson, Paul Simons and Aaron Spencer, who played in the 2019 FA Cup final, are ready to guide the team and El Karfa hopes it will be second time lucky.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to represent ourselves and our club in a good way,” El Karfa told The Royal Gazette.

“It’s already an achievement to get to another final. This is our second final of the Premier Division cup and we are ready for the challenge.

“I know we are playing one of the most experienced teams in these trophies but the boys are ready and we are prepared mentally, physically and tactically.

“We are prepared to go there and play good football and it’s going to be very special for us to win a trophy in the Premier Division.”

Jarreau Hayward’s side last won the Dudley Eve in 2019 when they defeated Hood in a seven-goal thriller under the guidance of Devarr Boyles.

“This final is another step in a long season and a storied history for Dandy Town,” Hayward said.

“Everyone is excited to still be a part of this tournament named after such an important person in Bermudian history.

“This game and every game will continue to be a function of our process so we just want to execute and may the best team win. The fact that there’s a trophy at the end of the game to be handed out is a bonus for sure.”

While X-Roads are having a tough time in the league, where they are yet to win, Hayward expects their opponents to show up in the final.

“X-Roads are a good team,” the Town coach said.

“Their league position is not reflective of how good they can be and they have done really well in this tournament. We know they will give everything.”

Hayward has to do without some key players. Winger Zachary Hannay will miss the final due to prior arrangements.

“We are beat up a bit but every team is, so that’s no excuse,” the Town coach said.

“We will evaluate a few players after training but our available players are ready to go.”

X-Roads have struggled with injuries and suspensions early in the season. Jarye Bean is back after being sent off against PHC in a league match, while Cardel Henry will miss the final after receiving a red card in the semi-final.

“We have started to recover a few injured players and some from suspension,” El Karfa added.

“We’ve had a rough period of a lot of injuries and suspensions. But we are relatively in better shape for this match, the team is ready for this final.

“I want to say to the fans, just to remind them this is our second opportunity to play in a final of the Premier Division trophy.

“I’m hoping they come out and support the team and cheer for the team. That should definitely help us more in this opportunity.”
